the schloss johannisberg estate has been cultivating vines for 1200 years and riesling since the beginning of the 18th century. today, the estate has 50 hectares of perfectly south-facing land. the riesling grapes are grown on 45° slopes at an altitude of 182 meters. schloss johannisberg has its own oak forest (300 hectares) and the wines are matured in local oak barrels which give the wine texture and structure. finally, the underground cellar has a priceless treasure: nearly 25,000 wines stored for almost three centuries, the oldest dating back to 1748! currently owned by the oetker family, the estate has been managed by christian witte since 2005. the winery has a unique architecture, being composed of a vinification cellar, a barrel cellar and vats. it is possible to visit the castle or to discover what makes its magic around a tasting Schloss Johannisberg Spätlese Grünlack Riesling 2021 has a wonderful aroma similar to tea leaves to accompany peaches and dried apricots. its texture is rich, soft and creamy, filling the mouth with sweetness while ending with irritating acids. once you taste it, you can't get enough of it.
Very well balanced spatlese, the nose is rich and expressive with lots of finesse, showing aromas of passion fruit, mango and ripe apricots; the palate is very full and bright with a splendid freshness.
